My story
I started my journey into the wellness industry aged just 16 when I completed my NVQ in Beauty Therapy straight out of school. Life has taken many twists and turns since then, I have worked many different jobs but have always remained interested in wellness and helping others.
Jump ahead to 2022, the pandemic was over and I was working as a French teacher but beginning to realise that this was absolutely not what I wanted to do forever. I considered returning to Beauty Therapy but somehow knew that it would not fulfil me completely. After the pandemic, one of the things I was most grateful for was being able to return to the gym and reconnect with my community. When some close friends began building their own MMA gym, I was truly inspired by their dedication and passion. It reminded me how much I enjoy supporting others and how rewarding it is to contribute to their wellbeing. MMA can be incredibly tough on the body, and I’m thankful to be in a position where I can help my friends stay strong, recover more quickly, and continue doing what they love.
Hence, Jo’s Sports and Recovery was conceived and I enrolled first to do my City and Guilds Level 3 Body Massage and then to start a Level 5 Diploma in Soft Tissue Therapy. Along the way I enrolled in a RockTape kinesiology taping course and a dry cupping course and I’m sure there will be more to come.
Another good friend of mine owns the amazing salon space that I use and kindly offered to let it to me when she wasn’t using it for her lash business so things truly began to get real. With some trepidation, I realised I was now ready to jump in and start this exciting new chapter.
Constantly evolving
The more I study Sports Therapy, the more things I find that interest me. Kinesiology taping was the first thing I looked into and I (as the owner of a very cantankerous knee) really believe it makes a huge difference to performance and comfort. I did a course with RockTape in April and am proud to offer taping as part of a sports massage or just on its own.
Dry Cupping is the next thing on the agenda, RockTape do their own version, RockPods, which are kinder to skin and simpler to use, making it a no-brainer for me to sign up for the training course in September so watch this space for cupping to be added to the treatment menu.
All this alongside studying for my Level 5 Diploma, learning new skills every day to keep my clients moving better.
I’ve been seeing a lot about Dry Needling recently… maybe that will be my next obsession!
“Jo has been incredible across the board. She has helped me throughout multiple injuries with both her taping and massage. Would highly recommend her services.”
